For the purposes of UK data protection law, the data controller for information collected through this site is Global Lawyers Link, contactable at the details below. Global Lawyers Link is not itself a UK law firm and does not practise law in England & Wales; UK-based matters are referred to and handled by the appropriately regulated UK Country Network Partner.
When you submit a case evaluation or contact form on this site, we collect the information you provide directly — typically your name, email address, phone number, and a description of your matter. Because of the nature of our work, this description will often include information about actual or alleged criminal proceedings, INTERPOL notices, or arrest warrants concerning you or a third party. We do not collect information about you from any other source, and we do not use tracking technology to build a profile of you beyond the consent-based analytics described in Section 5.
Details you share about an extradition request, a Red Notice, an arrest warrant, or criminal charges are treated as criminal offence data under UK data protection law — a category subject to stricter conditions than ordinary personal data. We only process this information because it is necessary to assess your enquiry and, where you instruct us, to connect you with the appropriate independent lawyer to act for you. We do not process criminal offence data for any other purpose, and we do not publish, sell, or use it for marketing.
We rely on the following legal bases under UK GDPR, depending on the situation: your consent, given when you submit a form on this site; legitimate interests, in responding to enquiries and operating this site securely; and, once you instruct a lawyer through the network, the steps necessary to enter into or perform that contract for legal services. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time by contacting us, without affecting anything already done on that basis.
This site uses cookies for essential site function and, only with your consent, for analytics (via Google Tag Manager) and advertising measurement. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies using the banner shown on your first visit, and change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site and reloading the page. If you decline, no analytics or advertising cookies are set, and no data is sent to Google for those purposes.
LawyersLink UK is part of the wider Global Lawyers Link international network. If your matter requires it, your case details are shared with the specific independent lawyer or law firm within the network best placed to handle it — most often the UK Country Network Partner for UK-based matters, or a lawyer in another jurisdiction if your case has a cross-border element. We also share information with service providers who support the operation of this site (such as hosting and email delivery), under confidentiality obligations. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with any other third party without your knowledge.
Because Global Lawyers Link is an international network, a referral may mean your information is transferred to a lawyer or law firm outside the UK — for example, in an EU member state or another jurisdiction relevant to your matter. Where this happens, we take steps to ensure the transfer is protected to a standard consistent with UK data protection law, including relying on the receiving lawyer's own professional confidentiality obligations under their local law and, where applicable, appropriate contractual safeguards. We only transfer the information necessary for that lawyer to assess and act on your matter.
If you submit an enquiry that does not proceed to instruction, we retain your information for no longer than 24 months, so we can respond to any follow-up query, after which it is deleted. If you instruct a lawyer through the network, the retention period for your file is set by that lawyer's own professional and regulatory obligations in their jurisdiction, which typically require records to be kept for a number of years after a matter concludes.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information you share with us, including encrypted transmission of form submissions and restricted access to enquiry data. No system is completely secure, but we take the sensitivity of this information — particularly criminal offence data — seriously in how we handle it.
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to: access the information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request erasure of your information, subject to any legal or professional retention obligation that may override this; restrict or object to certain processing; receive a copy of your information in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time where consent is our legal basis. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, we would welcome the chance to address it directly first. You also have the right to complain to the UK's independent data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or by calling 0303 123 1113.
